Mouzakis on Dnews: We are waiting for the provision on taxation of Airbnb

The relevant provision, which is expected, will determine how the rental through airbnb will be taxed.

Tax experts are waiting for the relevant provision for Airbnb, which was announced by the government, to determine exactly what will be done with the taxation of housing rentals through the relevant platform.

As tax expert Antonis Mouzakis told dnews, it has not yet been clarified exactly how the taxation will be done. "My opinion has always been that those who rent should also pay VAT. On Airbnb, there is still no VAT if you have up to two properties and rent them on the relevant platform" he says and continues: "There is no VAT now, as long as you do not provide services. (do not change bed linen, service, etc.). The point is to see exactly what the new provision provides and then we will find out exactly what will happen. The income now, if you have up to two houses and you rent them out through Airbnb, is taxed normally, as rental income."

It is recalled that according to the announcements of the prime minister and the responsible minister, Mr. Hatzidakis, at the International Exhibition of Thessaloniki, from January, the income from such leases, in three or more properties, will be subject to VAT and fees such as hotels and rental rooms.
